Network Analyzers

Network analyzers are tools that are used to help identify problems within certain areas. But it is a very broad term that is often confusing to some people, especially those who are new to electronics. The confusion often arises from the use of the word "network". That word, in electronics, computer, and Internet, can mean different things.

There are network analyzers that are used for Internet server problems. These devices can help technicians locate problems that are associated with the reliance of the server itself. There are other network analyzers that are used to detect problems that may be occurring during the course of the server input and output systems.

An entirely different type of network analyzers are those devices that are used to test and monitor mobile communication systems. From cell phones to iPods, these devices use an entirely different set of protocols than those mentioned above.

There are also network analyzers that are used to test and monitor individual networks or intranet networks such as those that might be found in an office environment or data center.

The best way to understand the network analyzers that you need is to first understand the work that needs to done. Once you have isolated exactly what it is you need to test, you can begin looking for the devices that will best suit those needs.

It should be noted that most network analyzers will come with a pre-installed set of protocols. These protocols are the basic tests that the device will do for you. Some of these protocols can be incredibly complex while others are very basic. Again, knowing what you need the device to do for you is one of the keys to getting the proper type of device.

Another very good reason for doing this preliminary work is that the price range of network analyzers can be drastic. Some hand held devices can be bought for less than a thousand dollars while larger devices (or more complex devices) can run into the tens of thousands of dollars.

You should know that these devices can come as hand held models, desk top monitoring devices, or in units that are stand alone and require consideration for space requirements. The device you want to purchase is the device that you need. It is not at all uncommon to over buy when it comes to network analyzers.
